WOTA Everyday Ethics: Session 7:

Professional Competence, Education, Supervision, and Training (Section 5) 

WOTA is pleased to offer an exciting new webinar series this year specific to ethics for the occupational therapy practitioner. Each session will welcome special guest speakers from the AOTA ethics committee. The session will follow the newly released book, Everyday Ethics & the Occupational Therapy

This is the 7th session in this Ethics series. This will focus on section 5 of the Code of Ethics with topic areas of Professional Competence, Education, Supervision, and Training

Speaker Information:

Rena Purohit, JD, OTR/L

Rena Purohit, JD, OTR/L is an occupational therapist and an attorney. She is a member of the AOTA Ethics Commission. Rena is a full-time faculty member at Touro University's occupational therapy program in New York City.

Barbara Elleman, OTD, OTR/L, C-NDT

Barbara Elleman is an occupational therapist who currently serves on the AOTA Ethics Commission as the Practice Representative. She works at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and is an Assistant Professor at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Barbara graduated from East Carolina University (1992) with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, completed a post professional Masters of Health Science at University of Indianapolis (2002), earned her post professional doctorate at Eastern Kentucky University (2020) and is currently working on a dissertation for a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at University of Kentucky. Her interest and passion for ethics stems from the prominence of ethical situations in an ever changing healthcare environment and a desire to help current and future occupational therapy practitioners navigate ethical decision making. Barbara has authored and co-authored chapters and AOTA advisory opinions on various ethics topics; developed and instructed graduate courses focused on ethics and provided ethics related presentations within the United States.  She lives in Northern Kentucky with her husband and "child"ren and enjoys traveling, playing tennis and spending time with family.
