Title of Course: Unlearning Ableism, Relearning Access

Course Description: This workshop invites occupational therapy practitioners to critically examine the meanings and implications of access, disability, and ableism within their professional practices. By fostering an inclusive dialogue, participants will explore how systemic ableism impacts clients and how to cultivate a more equitable approach to care.

Through reflection, group discussion, and practical exercises, attendees will gain the tools necessary to unlearn harmful practices and relearn approaches grounded in accessibility and client empowerment.

Course Objectives:
• A deeper understanding of access and ableism as they relate to OT.
• Practical tools for unlearning ableist attitudes and behaviors.
• Strategies for fostering inclusive and accessible practices.
• A compassionate framework for self-reflection and critical investigation of their own OT practices

• Format: Interactive workshop with a mix of presentations, group discussions, and
practical exercises via web platform (Zoom).
• Method of Instruction: Facilitated discussions and reflective practice activities will
be used to engage participants and encourage critical thinking.

WOTA Everyday Ethics Webinar Series 2024

Join current and former members of the AOTA Ethics Commission for a continuing

education series focused on the AOTA Code of Ethics (the Code) and Standards of

Conduct, 2020 edition

The series includes 8, 1-hour live, online webinars with guest speakers from AOTA. Each session will have an individual topic with important practice information and discussion. These sessions will allow participants to attend 1 or 2 or all 8 without repetition or need for previous or future attendance.

Expert presenters, all occupational therapy practitioners, include the current Chair of the AOTA Ethics Commission (EC), three past EC Chairs, and other current and former members of the EC.
